"Lys av lys" er en konsert som kombinerer middelaldermusikk og nyskrevne elementer fra et bestillingsverk der Christos Barbas komponerer en messe basert på gamle tekster fra 1300-talls-mystikeren Ramon Llull.

Ramon Llull’s texts intertwine, dialogue and contrast with the poetry of contemporary philosophers and spiritual

figures such as Yunus Emre (Turkey, 1238–1320), Jalal al-Din Rumi (1207–1273), passages from the Bible as well as

both ancient and contemporary poetry. Although completely original, the composition is based on and inspired by elements of medieval music and Gregorian chant, as well as the mystical and Sufi music of the Middle

East, and vocal, instrumental and folk traditions from the Mediterrean and Balkans.

The music is inspired by sacred texts from various spiritual traditions that refer to the eternal struggle, coexistence, and complementarity between light and darkness, while also pointing to their incompatibility.
