Aleksander Nohr has been impressing audiences and critics with his rich and imposing baritone voice and his well-timed acting since his graduation from the Opera Academy in Copenhagen in 2012. That same year, Aleksander made his debut at the Royal Danish Opera as Dancairo in Bizet’s Carmen.

Aleksander has since been contracted as a soloist with companies including The Norwegian Opera and the Danish National Opera. His roles in Oslo have included Masetto in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Dandini in La Cenerentola, Schaunard in Puccini's La Boheme, and Stefano in Donizetti’s Viva la mamma. He returned to Bizet’s Carmen in the role of Moralès.

Elsewhere, Aleksander has sung Count Almaviva in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro (Arctic Opera), Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas (in concert with Concerto Copenhagen), Kristoffer Rustung in Henning Sommero’s Olav Engelbrektsson (Opera Trøndelag), Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen (Ringsakeroperaen) and Dandini in Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Danish National Opera).

Aleksander is an experienced oratorio soloist and lieder singer. While still a student he appeared with the Copenhagen Phil, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Concerto Copenhagen and the orchestra of Wermland Opera. His oratorio repertoire includes Charpentier’s Te Deum and Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins. Aleksander has collaborated with conductors including Michael Boder, Vello Pähn, Lawrence Foster, Alexander Prior, Andrew Lawrence-King and Giordano Bellincampi. He has recorded songs by John Frandsen for Dacapo Records and frequently collaborates with accordionist Ida Løvli Hidle. He is equally at home with folk song and contemporary art music.

Aleksander hails from Kjerringøy in the north of Norway. He began his vocal studies at the Institute of Music at NTNU in Trondheim, continuing his training at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and The Opera Academy in Copenhagen. He has participated in master-classes with artists including Bo Skovhus and Anne Lise Berntsen, and has also worked with coaches including Malcolm Martineau, Mikael Eliasen, Fiona MacSherry and Ouri Bronchti. Aleksander is grateful to the Royal Danish Academy of Music, the Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation and Bodø Municipality for grants that aided his studies.

Recent engagements include a role debut as Escamillo in CARMEN at Malmø Opera, Mr. Redburn, BILLY BUDD at The Norwegian National Opera, soloist at Bergen International Festival in the piece "Waiting" with director Calixto Bieito, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Eivind Gullberg Jensen. Furthermore Aleksander will sing his second Escamillo, this time with Arctic Philharmonic in Bodø, then engagements as Ping in TURANDOT at Kristiansund Opera and Opera Trøndelag will follow. Concert engagements include St. John's Passion in Denmark and Switzerland and Brahms' Requiem in Norway among others.
